Catch Reports

It's forties galore as the B5 banks yet another big UK brace!

Mike Edgeworth recently had a night’s fishing on a local gravel pit that he will remember for a very long time, after all, it’s not often you will get two carp totalling over 80lb your landing net at the same time! It all took off during the small hours of the morning when Mike had a blistering take which resulted in a very powerful fish tearing up and down the lake. Eventually he managed to tame what was obviously a very big fish and coax it into his waiting net. He then bit through his line and was about to carry his prize on to the waiting mat when his other rod roared into action!

He managed to stand on his landing net pole during the fight to prevent the first fish from escaping and after another hard scrap, finally managed to net the second fish alongside the first one! After calling for some assistance the two fish were removed and weighed. The second fish netted was a 33lb 8oz common and the first one in the net was this absolutely immaculate 47lb mirror (right). Top B5 bombing Mikey – again!

Wafters as hookbaits

Ian May with one of many 40lb+ commons he's landed on Essential Baits by making sure his hookbait placement is spot on.

The name 'Wafters' can be a little misleading because we don't want these baits too critically balanced. In our experience a hookbait that's too 'buoyant' can 'waft' all over the place as a carp approaches the bait and render it very ineffective and easy to eject. What we have done with these special hookbaits is to make them slightly more buoyant than a standard bottom bait straight out of the bag. This in turn will negate the weight of the hook and the hooklink and by the time the rig is presented, it will behave the same as the free offerings surrounding it. This is exactly what you need to achieve if you think about it because the carp will be feeding on the freebies and you want your hookbait to behave in exactly the same way.

Note

Our Wafters are 'tougher' than boilies straight out of the bag and are a popular choice for anglers that prefer their hookbaits a little harder than their freebies.
