Mike’s Diary

Finding the time!

Posted in Mike’s Diary on 09th April 2012

It's been a little while since my last diary piece but things have been a little hectic to say the least! As a business Essential Baits are enjoying their biggest growth rate for many a year, if not ever! I flew out to the Czech Republic in late Jan to help our Czech partners BigFish promote our baits at the Prague conference and would like to thank them all for their kind hospitality.

On top of this our new purpose built bait rolling factory has now been completed, which in turn allows us to keep right at the forefront of product development and ensures that we can keep on producing what most anglers now consider to be the very best range of baits ever produced whilst cementing a very secure future.

Of course, all the above coupled with the increased growth rates in business means plenty of extra work hours at Essential HQ and less time on the bank! However, I expect most who read this would all like to be out on the bank more. That said I think there's something to be said for a good balance in life between fishing and personal life and I could think of nothing more boring than being a full time angler - each to their own though.

On a personal note we are still busy with the new lakeside property with the hope of moving in later this year, but despite all this I've still been managing to string a few days together on my chosen 'day only' venue in search of one or two big commons. I managed a handful of days in late Feb and just five days in March but was happy to catch consistently during those sessions, with the biggest being a stunning 27lb 6oz linear.

With spring now well and truly upon us I'm hoping to have more to report in the coming months but before signing off would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported Essential Baits past and present and to say that your support is greatly appreciated by everyone here at Essential.

Tight lines and big fishes - Mike.

Good quality food baits

I can't begin to stress the importance of using a high quality food bait when it comes to catching carp on a regular basis. A bait formulated with nutritional ingredients will be sending out food signals long after the liquid attractors have been dispersed, this due to the fact that the ingredients themselves will be breaking down and sending out messages of food into the surrounding water.

Cheaper baits that have little or no nutritional value might sound more attractive on the pocket, but they will cost you dearly when it comes to producing the goods. Once any liquid attractors have dispersed, the bait will not be sending out any food signals at all, but further to this, will have no nutritional benefit whatsoever.

Carp, like all other fish, soon learn to recognise a food source and will continue to eat it again and again if it provides them with a sense of nutritional satisfaction. They have the ability to detect a nutritional food source prior to consumption (food signals coming from the bait) and after ingestion. With this in mind, we have developed what we believe to be the highest quality range of nutritional food baits available, and the success of the B5 alone has certainly gone some way to proving this.
